Laboratory of One Health, Infectious diseases and Zoonoses (LOHIDZ)

The “Laboratory of One Health, Infectious Diseases and Zoonoses” focuses on the microbiological study of pathogens related to zoonotic diseases, their transmission, spread, pathogenic mechanisms, and the immune response of hosts. Special emphasis is placed on the study of antibiotic-resistant bacterial strains, as well as the analysis of resistance gene transfer mechanisms through plasmids and other mobile genetic elements.

Molecular and phylogenetic analysis of pathogens is a key part of the laboratory’s research. Through phylogenetic analysis, genetic variations among pathogens found in humans, domestic animals, and wildlife are examined, allowing the identification of potential reservoirs and transmission pathways of infectious agents.

As part of the study of the ecology of infectious diseases, the laboratory investigates the multidimensional interactions between pathogens, hosts, and the environment. The goal is to understand the dynamics of diseases and contribute to the development of effective prevention and control strategies, focusing on practices that ensure the health of both humans and animals.
