Department’s Objective
Public Health is the science and art of preventing disease, prolonging life, and promoting health through organized community actions, while One Health refers to the integrated approach to the health of humans and animals, including a healthy environment and food safety.
The objective of the Department of Public and One Health is to conduct research and provide education in assessing health needs, applying evidence-based measures to improve health and protect the environment, utilizing health services in this effort, and evaluating the effectiveness of interventions. The interdisciplinary and integrated view of the health of humans, animals, and the environment represents an innovative approach that positions the Department of Public and One Health at the forefront of global scientific progress.
Educational Goals
By the end of their studies, graduates of the Department of Public and One Health should have knowledge of:
- The basic mechanisms of health and disease, including the life course approach.
- Methods of epidemiological research and biostatistical analysis applied to population health.
- The social, behavioral, cultural, and environmental determinants of health.
- The interactions between human and animal health, including food production, with a focus on One Health approaches.
- The organization and management of healthcare systems, as well as the principles of health economics and evidence-based health policy at local, national, and international levels.
- The principles of bioethics governing Public and One Health, along with health law.
- The necessity and processes of lifelong learning in their field of science.
